County Plowing Match nears
Posted Jul 29, 2010 By EMC NewsEMC Events - While billed as a show produced for farmers by farmers, the annual Hastings County Plowing Match and Farm Show has something for everyone, says show president Steve Elsey. And the 22nd annual show, hosted by RJ Farms on Blessington Road, Corbyville, on August 18 and 19 will feature all things agricultural from the present and past.
Elsey says a crew of dedicated volunteers along with committee members and organizers are gearing up for the thousands of people expected over the two-day event. More than 250 exhibitors will be set up in the tented city and demonstrations will include some of the latest equipment and tools as well as some relics from the past. Elsey says in the "something for everyone" category an expanded antique display is planned this year and "our ever popular ladies program promises to have another full program designed to interest everyone." As well, he says, "all children visiting the show are encouraged to spend some fun time creating crafts of their own in the Children's tent."
Also on the slate of events are the two days of plowing competitions, both for tractor operators and teamsters, Queen of the Furrow speeches and final announcement, antique tractor parade as well as live entertainment and ongoing displays and demonstrations.
Producers from Harvest Hastings will also be on hand, in part to help launch the new cookbook created by organizers specifically for the show, and woodlot owners can take some tips from sessions offered on forest management.
"We've got just about everything from last year," he says, with a few minor adjustments. As well, he says, by moving the show around the county in successive years, visitors are given a completely different view of agriculture practices and products. "I'd like to thank the Jarrell families for hosting the match and for all the hard work that they've done to help make this show a success," Elsey adds. "I also want to thank the Township of Tyendinaga for their support during the past year and a special thanks to our exhibitors and plowmen that have followed our show to the various match sites in Hastings County."
